What are chakras?

Chakras and chakra healing is a vast subject. Below I have provided a small and simplified overview to help you gain a basic understanding for the purpose of using your crystals to balance your chakras.

Chakras Explained

Chakras are the main energy centres of the body. There are many chakras but the main seven often discussed and healed are root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown. The word ‘Chakra’ translates to ‘wheel’ in Sanskrit. When the chakras are open, energy can flow through them freely.

The everyday highs and lows of life influences how well or unwell the energy is flowing through your chakras. When you are not well (physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually) your energy slows or becomes blocked; which in turn affects how well your energy centres are functioning.

Each chakra has a unique effect on your vibration and wellbeing. So healing and balancing each of the chakras is beneficial to different areas of your health and life.

When a chakra is low in energy; you will have difficulty expressing the qualities associated with that chakra. When a chakra is overactive, the associated qualities can act as a dormant force in your life and have an equally negative effect. The goal of chakra healing is to bring about a balance to the energy that is flowing throughout all seven of your chakras.

The more you practice chakra healing, the easier it becomes to recognise the shift in energy within yourself and your life.

An easy way to remember the 7 chakras is to remember the 7 colours of the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.  The seven main chakras run from the base of your spine to the top of your head.

Below is a simple guide chart of the chakras and which physical, mental and emotional attributes each energy centre governs.

If you are having any struggles with any of the physical, mental or emotional attributes then consider healing the corresponding chakra.

Healing chakras with crystals is one method for healing each of your chakras; other methods include mantras and yoga.

Crystal chakra healing

Chakras are the portals through which the positive healing energies of crystals can enter the body.

Placing crystals on and around your chakras creates an internal energy balance that heals and improves your well-being.

You can apply the 7 colours of the rainbow as an easy way to match which crystal is suitable to each chakra.

Root – red – Red Jasper

Sacral – orange – Carnelian

Solar plexus – yellow – Citrine

Heart – Green – Malachite

Throat – blue – Aquamarine

Third eye – indigo – Sodalite

Crown – Violet – Amethyst

However, crystals do have their own unique energies which can influence the energy within several different aspects of your mind, body and chakras. Therefore a crystal can be suitable for healing more than one of your chakras. E.g. the healing properties and vibration of Malachite are both transformational and visionary; making this crystal suitable for both the heart and the third eye.

You can interchangeably heal your chakras based on the chakra’s correlation to your physical, emotional and spiritual attributes, or based on the healing properties that each crystal transmits.

You can unlock your energy from your chakras through placing crystals on them and you can also unlock the energy within your crystals to receive their healing properties.

Placing your crystals on your chakras is one way to harness the energy from within the crystal. Your aura can also absorb the energy frequency from your crystals to in turn feel their healing effects. So holding your crystals, being around your crystals and wearing them are all ways you can influence your own energy.

Aura

Aside of the chakras, your energy system also consists of your aura. The aura is a field of energy surrounding the body. Energy radiates from the chakras into the aura and beyond to the outside world. Energy is also absorbed from the outside world into your aura, through your chakras and around your body.

The aura is the first line of defence against energies you receive from the external world. It helps you to sense energies. When you get an eerie feeling, that is your aura tingling from the energy it is processing. Similarly it is your aura that can make you feel if something or someone is close.

Since energies move in and out through your aura it is also beneficial to cleanse your aura to make sure no energy gets trapped in your energetic field, particularly that of somebody else’s.

You can use Selenite as a brush to cleanse your aura. Simply act as if you’re brushing long hair but brush around your body to brush away any energetic debris. Brush yourself from head to toe.
